⚠️ EXPIRED: This transfer bonus ended February 28, 2026. The analysis below is kept for reference when future Chase → Marriott bonuses appear.
Chase offered a 50% bonus when you transfer Ultimate Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy through February 28, 2026. Here’s how to evaluate similar future bonuses.
The Math
Normally, Chase points transfer to Marriott at a 1:1 ratio. With this bonus:
- 10,000 Chase UR → 15,000 Marriott points
But here’s the thing — Marriott points are worth significantly less than Chase points.
Baseline Values
| Currency | Average Value |
|---|---|
| Chase UR (portal) | 1.25¢ |
| Chase UR (transfer) | 1.5-2.0¢ |
| Marriott Bonvoy | 0.7-0.9¢ |
Even with a 50% bonus, you’re getting:
- 15,000 Marriott × 0.8¢ = $120 value
- vs 10,000 Chase × 1.5¢ = $150 value
When It DOES Make Sense
1. You Need Points for a Specific Redemption
If you’re 20,000 Marriott points short of a dream redemption and don’t want to wait, the bonus softens the blow. Just be honest with yourself — are you transferring because the math works, or because you want to justify it?
2. Category 1-4 Properties
Lower-tier Marriott hotels can deliver 1¢+ per point value, making the math work better. Here are some examples where this bonus actually shines:
| Property | Points/Night | Cash Rate | Value/Point |
|---|---|---|---|
| AC Hotel Portland | 17,500 | $189 | 1.08¢ |
| Courtyard Downtown Chicago | 25,000 | $279 | 1.12¢ |
| Marriott Marquis San Diego | 35,000 | $399 | 1.14¢ |
When you’re getting 1.1¢+ per Marriott point, and you transferred at 1:1.5, you’re effectively getting 1.65¢ per Chase point — not amazing, but acceptable if you specifically want hotel currency.
3. 5th Night Free on Award Stays
This is Marriott’s best feature. Book 5 nights, pay for 4. This effectively gives you 25% more value from your points and stacks with the transfer bonus.
Example: 200,000 points for 5 nights at a property normally $500/night = $2,500 value = 1.25¢ per point. Now the bonus math works.
4. Peak Season Bookings When Cash Rates Spike
Marriott’s dynamic pricing can actually work in your favor during peak periods. When hotels charge $600+ per night during high season, point redemptions often stay relatively stable, dramatically improving your cents-per-point value.
Alternative: Why Hyatt Is Usually Better
If you’re holding Chase Ultimate Rewards and want hotel points, World of Hyatt is almost always the better play:
Hyatt vs Marriott Comparison
| Factor | Hyatt | Marriott (with 50% bonus) |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer Ratio | 1:1 | 1:1.5 |
| Point Value | 1.7-2.0¢ | 0.7-0.9¢ |
| Sweet Spots | Category 1-4 hotels | 5th Night Free only |
| Footprint | Smaller (but growing) | Massive |
For aspirational redemptions like Park Hyatt Tokyo or Alila Bali, Chase → Hyatt delivers outstanding value. The TPG valuation guide consistently ranks Hyatt as the most valuable hotel currency.
When to SKIP This Bonus
Don’t transfer just because “50% bonus” sounds exciting. Here’s when to hold:
- You don’t have a specific redemption in mind — Speculative transfers are almost always a mistake. Points devalue over time, and you’re locking yourself into a single program.
- You have other transfer options — Chase points transfer to United, Southwest, Hyatt, and more. Airlines often provide better value for aspirational trips.
- You’re comparing to Amex transfer bonuses — Amex sometimes offers 40% bonuses to Marriott, which is close enough that you shouldn’t panic-transfer Chase points.
- Cash rates are reasonable — If the hotel is $150/night, don’t burn points. Save them for expensive peak-season bookings.
How to Calculate Your Specific Redemption
Before you transfer, do this quick math:
- Find your hotel’s point cost on Marriott.com
- Check the cash rate for those same dates
- Divide cash rate by points = your cents-per-point value
- Multiply by 1.5 (the bonus) = your effective Chase point value
If you’re getting less than 1.5¢ per Chase point, skip it. If you’re getting 1.7¢+, the transfer becomes defensible.
The Bottom Line
For most people, keep your Chase points as Chase points. Transfer to Hyatt (1:1, excellent value) or airline partners for flights.
Only pull the trigger on this Marriott bonus if you have a specific, high-value redemption lined up. Use Marriott’s award chart to calculate whether the bonus makes sense for your target property.
The 50% bonus is nice, but it’s not magical. Do the math first.
